An Update from the Executive Director

Dear friends and supporters of Rad Magpie,

We’ve been quiet for a while, while we’ve quite reconfigured the organization. I’ve had so much I’ve wanted to tell you for so long, but it took some time to put the full story into words. Now, the full story is ready. You can read it here.

You may have noticed that we are not running Rad Studio this summer, the program that we have long considered to be Rad Magpie’s “flagship.” This decision was one part of a massive strategy shift that we decided on early this winter.

Here we are on the precipice of something new and completely, totally different. Rad Magpie is seeking to drop out from the nonprofit industrial complex while shifting our focus to organizing and resource development. We will be transitioning to a board- and volunteer-led organization. This means that very soon, Maggie, Megan, and I will be moving away from our paid roles and to the board in a part-time volunteer capacity. We will…

…work more closely with the game development community locally and at large to create events and build solidarity.

… grow the board and the volunteer base.

…develop a comprehensive set of free online resources to evolve the video game industry, from mid-career developers to college students and faculty, to studio heads.

… shift our attention from paywall education towards getting the community involved in our mission on a larger scale.

Our time is now spent on connecting with other organizations like MEG-P, Ethical Games, and Take This. We’ve also been filling up our online blog with tons of great resources surrounding ethical game development. As usual, we’ve got some big ideas about where this organizing will take Rad Magpie, but we’re wise enough to recognize that we are right at the beginning of formulating our future action.

Thank you for all of your support across the years. Financial support, yes, but also your attention, your kind words, and your presence. And thanks, as always, for coming along for the ride! We’ll keep you updated.
